Katrien Jacobs: CONFESSIONS OF A PORN FASHION VICTIM, INTERVIEWS ABOUT THE PERSONAL NETPORN EXPERIENCE
Via: Post Porn Politics 2006
Katrien Jacobs is a scholar, curator and artist and works as assistant professor at City University of Hong Kong. She was born in Belgium and received her Ph.D. degree from the University of Maryland, with a thesis on dismemberment myths and rituals in 1960s/1970s body art and performance media. She has lectured widely and co-organized several conferences and events, such as the Institute of Network Cultures’ “Art and Politics of Netporn.” http://networkcultures.org/netporn. She recently finished a book entitled Libi_doc: Journeys in the Performance of Sex Art. (2005, Maska Publications) http://www.libidot.org. Her new book ‘The Sexual Chemistry of Internet Pornography” analyzes the boom of indie porn sex on the Internet is forthcoming with Rowman and Littlefield, USA.
What is this guy afraid of: Ursula Martinez, Aria Giovanni?
GIRLSWHOLIKEPORNO (Barcelona) Prostitution, porn and feminism.
Prostitution, porn and feminism. Webwhore manifesto: feminist manifesto that reindicates the decriminalisation of sex work and the use of internet as a tool.
Netporn. How internet has subverted the flow of information and has completely changed the access to porn material.
Pornography and feminist movements. From the antiporn positions of Catherine McKinnon and Andrea Dworkin to the anticensorship of Gayle Rubin and Carole Vance.
Women against pornography vs Women against censorship.
Women in “feminist porn”. Classics like Annie Sprinkle, Cindy Sherman or recent creators like Maria Beatty, Emilie Jouvet from France or Cronika from Mexico.
Connections between post-porn and the queer movement. Queer as the fight against heterosexist stereotypes and pink capitalism. Queer as the breaking force of the social construccions of woman-man, gay-lesbian. Butch-femme roles and drag kings.
The objectification of woman’s body. Sexual trangression as a feminist strategy. If women’s naked bodies have symbolized patriarchal sexual repression, is it really possible to subvert this gaze?
The representation of men as objects of desire. Most of the images of men are made from a gay perspective. Why? Are women not desiring male bodies? How can we create a sexual imagery that represents our desires without degrading the objects of our desires?
Yes, we desire all kinds of bodies in fact. Men, women, whatever. And men’s bodies are sexy. But perhaps we do not want to do it in the way men have used the body of women as an object to impose their power upon them. Perhaps women are not willing to do it in the same abusive, degrading way the male has been doing it. How can we do it?
Shu Lea Cheang, a nomadic digital artist, traverses in aboveground and underworld
Shu Lea Cheang, a nomadic digital artist, traverses in aboveground and underworld. Following her one year project "Brandon" (1998-1999), the first web art commission from the Guggenheim Museum New York, She went off to Tokyo for directing "I.K.U", the scifi porn feature that premired at Sundance Film Festival 2000. After I.K.U.’s screening in Denmark, she wrote "Fluid" for Zentropa’s Puzzypower division. With Puzzypower folded its production line, Fluid was never realized. The concept for FLUID was diverted into performative art projects that was included in Taipei Biennale 2000, Detox (Norway, 2004) and Terrorist love night Gender Trouble (Paris, 2004). Milk, born out of same concept, was a web rendition for 56K-bastard TV (Switzerland, 2004). She is currently developing I.K.U. sequal UKI with Uplink, Tokyo. The Ursula Martinez Striptease is not part of her work.
BUT IS IT ART? NOTES FROM THE RELUCTANT PORNOGRAPHER Bruce LaBruce
Through a presentation of slides and film and video clips, I will be tracing the evolution of the use of explicit sexuality in my movies and art. Beginning with the hardcore homopunk fanzine I co-edited in the eighties, I will describe how I started incorporating found images from pornography in my work as a kind of political strategy in order to challenge the homophobia that had developed in the supposedly radical and progressive hardcore punk movement. I will explain how this developed into making my own sexually explicit images, photographic, literary, and cinematic, in the tradition of the gay avant-garde, and how this led to my involvement in the "legitimate" porn industry. Questions about the intersection of art and pornography, the mainstreaming of porn imagery, and the current state of the art of pornography will be addressed.
Skandal! Fettisch.de zensiert by Lansky, Ganzger, Partner!

Why watch porn?
Or why not look for "other" porn?
How theorize sex performances?
How produce other body-technologies?
How celebrate critical pleasures?
How criticise without censorship?
Why affirm the fetish?
Why sexualise alienation?
How intensify the relation between theory & practice?
Why is power sexy?
Why the body a victim of capitalist commodification?
Why not fuck different, instead of idealising a way back to nature?
